Group Topic

My group topic is social network. According to dictionary.com, there is more than one definition for social network. One definition is “a network of friends, colleagues, and other personal contacts.” Another definition is “an online community of people with a common interest who use a Web site or other technologies to communicate with each other and share information, resources.” The last definition from dictionary.com is “a Web site or online service that facilitates this communication.”

We are leaner towards social networks that are online, such as Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter.  Also, more about how social networks are used. Even though, we are going are going into a little detail about privacy of social networks.

Scavenger hunt 2011

I did not have to blog anything for the scavenger hunt. One of my group member’s did. We spilt the work up.  Once one of us was done, the person done would ask one of our other members if they needed any help. Of course, we needed help on some. Some of the information was hard to find using just search engines.  We were searching everywhere we could think of where the answer might be.  It was hard to find the answers. It was even harder because it was time consuming too. It is harder to think of where to find the answer when you only have a certain amount of time to find them. I thought of a better way to find the answers after class was over. It was too late at the time. I know if I ever had to do it again, I would use different methods.

Entertainment in 10 years

The online entertainment 10 years for now will be better.  You will be able to find everything you need on the web. Right now, you can watch TV shows and movies online.  There is online gaming.  You can listen to music, stream music, or download music. You can find information about yourself. You can spy on people without them knowing. You can read books, newspapers, magazines all online.  Some teachers post syllabuses online instead of handing them out the first day of class. They also might post study guides and worksheets online.  You might have to hand in homework online at a certain time instead of turning it in class.

In 10 years from now, there probably will not be any paper version of anything, such as books and magazines. Everything will be online. You probably could order something from McDonald's online so all you have to do it go pick it up because everything will already paid for and made. You would not have to stand in any lines to order, only to pick up.  More people will be working from home online instead of going in to the office.  People might be more comfortable buying online so they do not have to go to the store.

Personal Presentation

My personal presentation was about how easy it is to find information about people. I typed a name in google. A website came up called Peek you. It tells you about the person. You can narrow the search down by country and state, even city. It tells you the persons’ name. It could also tell you part of their phone number. Other links you can click to get more information. It tells you the basic information, such as gender, relationship status, wealth, and so forth.

The websites only have partial information about the person. You have to pay a fee to get full information about the person, but you also have to read the fine print. The fine print is letting the buyer they will be charged a certain amount each month until the subscription is cancelled. It is interesting what you can find out about people without having to pay anything. It is creepy too because now it makes you wonder if you have a stalker that you do not know about it that is putting most of the information up. If you found information about yourself that you did not put online that means somebody else did. It could be somebody you told information about or it could be a complete stranger. You have to be careful what kind of information you tell people.

What Makes a Community?

There are many ways to define communities. Communities could be a group of people living in the same area. It could mean a group of people with the same likes or dislikes, also a group of people with the same political interest.   Demographics could help create a community. A group of wealthy people could be considered a community. Same with a group of middle class people. People in poverty could also be considered a community.

The area I live in is considered a community. If I hung out with a group of people that have the same interest as me could be considered a community. Group projects could be considered a temporary community.
There are even online communities. Online communities are considered social networks.  Facebook is a social network that could be considered a social network.  Myspace could also be considered a community.  Any social network could be considered as an online community. We can define communities in many different ways.

If the world had no rules or laws, there would be no communities because people would not live where they are now.  They would be living where they want to live and doing what they want to do because there is nobody stopping them.

Net Worth

If I were to google Chelae’s net worth or online net worth, nothing would show up doing with my net worth. I do not have a lot any way. I have student loans, credit union account, and a laptop.  This is the advantage of living with my parents because I do not have to spend a lot. There are more disadvantages than advantages though. Everything else is my parents’ money, not mine. I do not have a job, so I do not have much money anyway.

Chelsea net worth came up when I use google to find mine. Nothing showed up for me, but that is a good thing. It is out there, but it is no big deal to me. You will not find it doing a regular search.   I even use google to see if I could find online net worth. I found nothing again. I love my name. I found this cool website. https://www.networthiq.com/  It breaks down persons’ net worth by categories including age. You sign up for it and answer questions it is also free. I did not feel like signing up for it. There is a using name called DontGoToCollege, I found it using the under 25 category.
